Week 2 Manipulating the image.

This week we started off with mono printing, I've never done mono printing before so this was interesting and to be honest by the end of it I didn't really like it that much, because only sometimes it even turns out very good. We started designing our mono prints by choosing a phrase or word like we did last week, and writing it out making it look 3d, or writing in cursive etc. This wasn't anything new for me but it was fun, I like the drawing side of it. After photocopying our designs we then started to mono-print. Mixing the inks to get light shade or different mixes of colours was annoying because it often came out blotchy looking and so you had to roll it out and then roll that onto a different plate to make it even, at least I worked that out eventually. I got some alright looking mono prints out of it, but overall I'm not too happy with them, they didn't turn out as I really wanted them too.

On tuesday we started making posters using mono print collage and drawing or painting. I chose the phrase "Stop Animal Cruelty!!" as my first poster. This I did enjoy making because it involved text and drawing and I only mono printed the background so that was ok. The end result was a alright poster, the drawing of the giraffe is a bit rushed but it got the point across, but I like how the words stand out. The second poster I made says "Say NO to animal abuse!" and has a sad sad sad cat saying the words, I really like how the cat turned out it really did look sad and didn't take too long to draw either. I guess sometimes some things just work out nicely anyway. I also really like the mono printed background in this one, it turned out really nice, less blotchy than the previous one and not too overpowering.

Overall this week was good and I am looking forward to next week.
